Steering Committee
A Steering Committee is an elected body within a local DSA chapter voted into position by it’s members to coordinate activities involving the whole chapter.
Duties, alongside administrative responsibilities, include planning monthly chapter meetings & social gatherings, coordinating chapter communication with local organizations and the community, ensuring chapter compliance with bylaws in digital DSA and event spaces, as well as assisting members and action committees as needed.
The Syracuse DSA Steering Committee members are nominated among chapter peers and voted into positions during a yearly chapter convention. These positions are appointed for a one year term.

Secretary Treasurer
Elected Member: AMELIA G.
Duties: Keeps all official chapter records. Keeps clear notes (minutes) and plans (agendas) for all chapter meetings. Holds all the chapter's official papers/records, manages membership, keeping the list of all MIGS (members in good standing) current, and helps members pay dues. Handles chapter money; is responsible for all the chapter's money and financial records. Must deposit all funds in a local credit union.
Creates the chapter's yearly budget, shares financial updates at General & Steering Committee meetings
Ensures a smooth handover from one Steering Committee to the next, transferring all official documents and records to the next Secretary-Treasurer.

Communications Organizer
Elected Member: LORE K.
Duties: Manages official chapter communications with statewide DSA chapters, national DSA representatives, and any other individual the chapter may need to be in communication with in an official capacity.
Oversees all communications through chapter channels (Website, Press Releases, Facebook, Twitter, Slack, Discord, etc.) to answer questions, and share information for potential volunteers and new members. As well as creates content for, and manages, an up-to-date social media presence for Syracuse DSA action committees to share upcoming events and/or projects with the community.

Labor Officer
Elected Member: MIKE P.
Duties: Develops Chapter Labor Strategy; Helps the chapter connect with unions, worker coops, and other worker organizations, helps the chapter decide how to expand unions and democratize workplaces, coordinates chapter actions designed to increase worker power, and nurtures all related relationships for long term success.
Reports all labor activity and information to the chapter, providing updates on chapter labor work at Steering Committee, General, & Convention Meetings. -

New York State DSA Representative
Elected Members: JASMINE C. | MADY F.
Duties: Advances State-Level Goals; works to promote the chapter's socialist ideals, politics, and causes at the state level. Represents the Syracuse chapter in New York State and Upstate New York DSA meetings.
Coordinates chapter participation in state elections, working with the chapter on endorsing candidates for state political office and facilitates communication between the Syracuse chapter and the broader NYS DSA structure.

At Large Members
Elected Members: RUSTY B. | SARA C. | MAX D. | J M. | CeCe S. | EURAL W.
Duties: Assists with fundraising, running campaigns and planning educational events not covered by existing action committees. By networking with the community, these members act as representatives and connect the chapter with other organizations and activists in and around Syracuse & NYS.
Joining, attending and participating in chapter committees is common for At Large Representatives to aid in necessary work when member volunteer capacity is strained.
This position is ideal for gaining steering committee experience!
